Seminar on Ramie cultivation

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: A Ramie Cultivation Seminar cum meeting was organized at Hime village, under Kangku circle of Likabali sub division yesterday.

Organized by Rural Development Welfare Society Arunachal Pradesh, the meeting was attended by large number of farmers from Kangku circle, Joint Director, ICAR Basar, industries of Ramie industry, adviser of agriculture GoAP, CO and ADEO Likabali.

Speaking as chief guest, Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Setong Sena, while underlining the significance of cultivation of Ramie called on people to take up Ramie cultivation.

Local MLA cum deputy speaker legislative assembly Jomde Kena attending as guest of honour emphasized on MoU between industrialists and farmers for the finishing products. Chairman, Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation Ltd, Tani Loffa while asking the farmers to take up Ramie cultivation assured them assistance.

 

NPF withdraws bandh

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Nyishi Peoples Forum (NPF) withdrew its proposed 12 hrs capital bandh  on December 18, after the Capital Deputy Commissioner assured to consider their demand for exemption of Land allotment certificate for obtaining PRC and ST certificates by the people of Arunachal Pradesh, according to NPF release.

 

ANYA demands punishment

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) has vehemently condemned the physical assault on DNGC assistant professor Dr Aruna Gyati Lod by an examinee yesterday. The Association demanded the law enforcing authority to book the wrong doer immediately and also urged the RGU authority to debar the candidature of the examinee from any university examination permanently.  

Meanwhile, the ANYA demanded stringent punishment to the rapist who allegedly raped a minor girl at Yachuli recently.

 

GWS mourns death of Babu’s mother

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Galo Welfare Society (GWS) expressed deep sadness over the unfortunate and un-expected demise of Kipa Menia, mother of former MLA Kipa Babu and present deputy chief councilor of Itanagar municipal council. Menia died in a road accident near her residence at Pappu Nallah, (Naharlagun) on December 12.

“She was loved and admired by all for her activeness even in her old age. We are really saddened by her demise,” the Society said in its condolence message.  The Society also expressed anguish and resentment at the reckless driving in capital complex which put an end to a precious life.

The society conveyed deep sense of condolence to bereaved family and prayed to Almighty Donyi Polo to grant eternal peace to departed soul.

 

AEKSU demands arrest of erring police officer

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Claiming that a sub-inspector one L Buni and  constable M. Doka had brutally beaten up a woman identified as  Yamak Phassang, W/o Tasso Phassang at Type-III colony in Seppa recently, All East Kameng Students Union (AEKSU) today strongly demanded to arrest  erring police officer and constable under appropriate section  of law. Armed with FIR copy filed by victim, AEKSU stated that inhuman  treatment and atrocities against woman by guardian of law is highly condemnable. According to the FIR Yamak was brutally beaten by them around 6.pm whereas the Supreme Court has clearly given guidelines that a woman cannot be arrested after sunset till the morning, added AEKSU.

 

‘Make BSNL service operational’

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Toru Circle Students’ Union in a letter to General Manager, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Itanagar demanded immediate activation of BSNL Tower constructed at Kheel.

The union claimed that BSNL tower was erected at Kheel years back but still activation was not done by the authority for which the people of the area are facing difficulties in e-communication.

The union urged the BSNL authority to make the BSNL service operational through the said tower within two months.

 

Voluntary blood donation camp held

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: The youths of ‘Papum Pare District Christian Youth Fellowship’ (PPDCYF) in collaboration with Ramakrishna Mission Hospital (RKMH) organized a ‘Voluntary Blood Donation Camp’ at Conference Hall of  RKMH here yesterday.   A team of doctors led by Dr. L R Chaudhuri, MO and Swamiji of RK Mission Hospital Itanagar supervised the camp.

Meanwhile, Dy. Director, Safety Blood, APACS Dr. Nabam Budh motivated the youths  saying that  youths from Faith based organization should play major role in serving the God in the form of saving others with such blood donations.

PPDCYF President Tadar Robin assured to organize more such voluntary blood donation camp in near future for the benefit of needy patients.

NEW DELHI, Dec 15: Yora Tagung, Vice Chairman, Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo Resource and  Development Agency, was conferred the Rastriya Sewa Ratna Award 2013  in a glittering function at New Delhi today. Tagung received this Award in recognition of his social service for the people of Arunachal Pradesh. The Award is being initiated by Viswa Sewa Parishad, a national organization, to encourage  and the recognize the  contribution of different persons  in their field of activities like education, health, industry, social service and culture. Altogether 19 persons have been selected from all over  India this year for this award.

 

RIMC entrance examination held

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: The Rastriya Indian Military College (RIMC) Dehradun Entrance Examination, 2013 for admission in Class-VIII was conducted on December 14 & 15 last at Govt. Upper Primary School, ESS Sector, Itanagar under the strict supervision of Director of Elementary Education  Bodong Yirang, DDEE-cum-Nodal Officer Obuk Panor, Centre Superintendent Tonya Chemmen along with other officers & officials of Elementary Directorate and teaching staffs of Govt. Upper Primary School, ESS Sector, Itanagar.

Only 13 candidates have appeared in the said examination for which Govt of Arunachal Pradesh also offer scholarship @ Rs. 12,000/- per annum to APST candidate only. Those candidates who found medically fit after qualifying written & Viva-Voce shall be eligible for admission in RIMC Dehradun.

It is worth mentioning that, RIMC Dehradun is imparting quality education from VIII-XII under the control of Ministry of Defence. The Govt of India is conducting this Entrance Examination every year with centre in all State across the Country. A candidate studying or passed class-VII examination from any recognized school in between 11 to 13 years age group may apply for the said examination which is conducted by the Directorate of Elementary Education, Govt, of Arunachal Pradesh every year.

Panyor River Festival to become annual event

YAZALI, Dec 15: The Panyor River Festival organized in line with Siang River Festival would be an annual event of state’s tourism department from next year, assured Tourism secretary Sonam Chombay. Attending the closing ceremony of the festival here today, Chombay said the festival was a result of bold initiative taken by the organizer to promote vast tourism potential of the area in particular and the state as a whole. He hopped this festival would go a long way in attracting foreign as well as domestic tourists and this will not only help grow rural tourism and rural economy but also generate employment opportunity.

Addressing the people on the occasion, local MLA cum Parliamentary Secretary Likha Saaya emphasized on development of infrastructure and tap the tourism potential to its fullest. Praising the Organizing Committee for such unique festival, he assured his support for organizing the festival in a grand way next year. He sought participation of all tribes irrespective of caste, creed and religion in the festival to exchange culture  and to know each other better. It will foster unity and feeling of oneness, he added.

He also informed that a bridge connecting right bank of the river Panyor would be constructed at Yazali.

In his speech, NES president Bengia Tolum highlighted about historical background of Yazali. He urged Govt to encourage this kind of gainful activity. This kind of promotional activities should be an example for many organizations, including those bandh calling organizations, he said.

Yazali is a birth place of Rikham Pada, shooting of first Hindi film from Arunachal Pradesh – “Meri Dharam Meri Ma” was took place in and around Yazali, Tolum said. “Nyishi culture flourished and preserved at Yazali; harness cultural potential of Yazali,” he added.

Earlier, Organizing Chairman Taba Techi submitted a  single point memorandum to Pema Khandu through Chombay urging him to include Panyor River Festival in annual event calendar of State Tourism department. He said this festival is a tribute to ancestors of Yazali and River Panyor.

Many dignitaries including IPR secretary Dani Salu, Director of Tourism Taru Talo and  public leaders, domestic and foreign tourists enjoyed the festival. Fashion show and cultural programme were going  while filing of this report.

 

 

Union Labour Minister Sis Ram Ola dead

NEW DELHI/ ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Union Labour and Employment Minister Sis Ram Ola died at a Gurgaon hospital on Sunday morning after a prolonged illness.

The 86-year-old Congress leader had been suffering from various ailments, sources in Medanta Medicity said.  He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

The Jat leader represented the Jhunjhunu constituency of Rajasthan and was a member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from 1957 to 1990, and from 1980 to 1990 he was a Cabinet Minister in the Rajasthan government. He was Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers (Independent Charge) from 1996 to 1997 and Union Minister of State for Water Resources (Independent Charge) from 1997 to 1998, Union Cabinet Minister of Labour and Employment from May 23, 2004 to November 27, 2004 and was Union Cabinet Minister of Mines in the Manmohan Singh’s government.

A recipient of the Padma Shri award in 1968, Ola started girls’ education in a remote area in rural Rajasthan with three girls in the school known as Indira Gandhi Balika Niketan Ardawata in 1952.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has expressed grief over the demise of veteran Congress leader and Union Minister for Labour and Employment Sis Ram Ola. In a condolence letter to Late Ola’s wife, Shiv Bai Ola, Tuki expressed shock and said, “In his death we have lost a veteran Congress leader, who served the country in different capacities. Besides, proving his calibre in governance by holding numerous posts in Rajasthan Government as well as the Union Government, Late Sis Ram Ola was a social worker who worked for the downtrodden people.”

“Late Sis Ram Ola will be admired as one of the best administrator and social worker by the people of this country. At this moment of grief, me, my family and people of Arunachal Pradesh extend our solidarity with you and share the pain inflicted on you and your family by this irreparable loss,” the Chief Minister added in his letter.

 

 

‘Cold chain facilities needed for better marketing of produces’

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: While participating in the first ever workshop organized in North Eastern Region on “Cold Chain Development” in the marketing sector at Guwahati on Dec 13, Tage Tatung, Managing Director, Arunachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing & Processing Board (APHPM & PB) said that the Cold Chain Development is an urgent necessity of Arunachal Pradesh for proper marketing of the horticultural produces which are highly perishable.

“At present about 15  to 40 per cent of horticultural produces are lost due to lack of infrastructure facilities on Post Harvest Management (PHM), due to which the income of the farmers are adversely affected. Till today we have been concentrated on area expansion only, but now time has come for stressing more on marketing produces to provide better price of their produces, which will encourage our farmers to grow more.”

Further, he said that all the North Eastern States should coordinate and co -operate each other to built proper cold chain development in the region for easy and better marketing of the produces in greater interest of farmers.

The workshop was organized by the Directorate of Horticulture & FP, Govt. of Assam and sponsored by the National Centre for Cold Chain Development (NCCD), Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Govt. of India, New Delhi, under the guidance of Capt. Pawanexh  Kohli, Chief Advisor, NCCD. On the request of the Tatung, MD, APHPM & PB, Capt. Kohli agreed to organize a similar workshop for Arunachal Pradesh, at Itanagar in January 2014 next.

Earlier, speaking on the inaugural session, Nilamoni Sen Deka, Minister of Agriculture, Govt of Assam said cold chain should be created to boost the production in agriculture and allied sector and he advised the participants to take full advantage of the programme extended by Govt. of India. Apart from Capt. Kohli, Agriculture Commissioner, Assam, T D Hanse, Director of Horticulture & FP, Assam, AK Gogoi, Zonal Project Director, ICAR, Borapani, Chief Scientist, Horticulture Station, Kahikuchi also spoke on the occasion.

 

 

PPA to maintain equal distance from INC and BJP

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: Alleging that both the High Command based national parties like Congress and BJP are mired with corruptions, nepotism, ill governance and pseudo secular credentials, the PPA in an emergency meeting convened in its Party office at Naharlagun has unanimously decided to oppose ‘the anti-tribals, anti-secular and anti-People policies’ of both the parties in 2014 Parliament and Assembly Elections.

Nikh Kamin, Party President and Laeta Umbrey, the Chief Ministerial candidate of the party stated that there is hardly any difference in character of both the Parties. If Congress is Pakistan then BJP is China eating into the growth of smaller regional Parties like PPA. If BJP led NDA Govt has enacted the National Hydro Power Policies in 2001-02 making Arunachal as Power House of the Nation without thinking about the already laid down Constitutional provision of protective development and Inner Line Regulation of 1873, the Congress regime has made MoAs business out of such Policies and inked more then 200 MoAs without the knowledge of the land owners, the party alleged.

Kamin stated that while the Congress legislators have collectively passed the MON and Patkai Autonomy council bills in 2004, the then BJP MP Kiren Rijiju and Tapir Gao had failed to get the same passed in Parliament. Now that election is round the corner, both the parties are again raising the issue and exploiting the public sentiments for their electoral benefits. With reference to refugee issue in the State, Umbrey claimed that “the Chakma-Hajong issues are creation of both the Parties as the Congress has brought and settled them and the BJP has got them recognized as Indian Citizens.” Umbrey further stated that both Parties are experts in designing and manufacturing emotive issues for electoral gains. It is therefore, high time that the innocent and straightforward people of the state do not get wood winked further.

Kamin also disclosed that PPA will not have any overt or covert connections with both the national Parties and go to the poll single handedly and on the basis of the vision documents and the Aam Aadmi related Election manifesto of the party.

 

 

National energy conservation day observed

PASIGHAT, Dec 15: The National energy conservation day was observed here on Dec 14 last at Democratic Bakin’s English School, Pasighat. Sponsored by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India, it was organized by the APEDA Pasighat. Quiz and essay competitions mark the day and the participants were felicitated.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. D Bagra DMO stated that in this fast changing world, quality of human life depends on electricity as much as food and shelter but we have to educate our people to spread the message of energy conservation and make them understand about various sources of non-conventional and conventional energy sources that promotes energy efficiency and energy conservation.

Conservation of energy doesn’t mean to minimize our regular uses but to adopt better and efficient technologies to make our life better. Global temperature is increasing due to release of harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere causing widespread damage to flora and fauna, resulting in melting of ice, rise in sea level, floods, drought etc and we need to go for renewable sources of energy, he added.

Earlier, DIPRO Marbang Ezing in his brief speech advised to organize more and more awareness campaigns on energy conservation to save natural resources which are very much limited on earth. For awareness of energy conservation, solar power plant and solar light arrangement be made in official buildings and energy saving devices could be used to reduce regular consumptions, asserted Ezing. He said actual mission of the observation was to establish energy efficiency services and mechanism in all sectors of the country.

Thousands take part in ‘Run for Unity’ in Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR, Dec 15: As a part of the nation-wide ‘Run for the Unity’ organized by the BJP under the initiative of party’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to mark the death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the ‘Run for Unity’ was also organized in various parts of Arunachal Pradesh with participation of the BJP party leaders and workers, youths and students.

At Itanagar, chief organizer of the event Tarh Tarak flagged off the “Run for Unity and National Integration” at ‘O’ point Tinali which was terminated at R K Mission Helipad. Thousands of people including youth, students, NGO representatives, political leaders took part in the run.  

Later while addressing the participants, Tarak explained the importance of such event and appealed them to cooperate in future too for the unity and integrity of the country.

At Yingkiong, BJP President Tai Tagak and Party national general secretary Tapir Gao (Ex-MP) flagged off the Run. A large number of party leaders including party state general secretary Dominic Tadar, Vice president Katan Kamboh, State BJYM president  Dug Saha, general secretary, BJYM Hinium Tachu, district party president,  senior leaders, party workers, youth, students and women took part in the Run for unity and run for India. Both Tagak and Gao also addressed the participants and highlighted the significance of the Run.

Later the BJP state president addressed the meeting of the Upper Siang district BJP executive body meeting.   

PTI adds from VADODARA/NEW DELHI: “This run is being organised with a determination to unite the people, unite the villages and unite the nation,” the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate said flagging of the event in Vadodara, adding, “This is an effort to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of all Indians. Please do not view it from prism of politics.”

BJP president Rajnath Singh and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley flagged off the marathon from the party headquarters in New Delhi. City leaders also participated in the 2-5 km run.

Party MP and spokesperson Prakash Javadekar took part in the marathon in Hyderabad while actor-turned-MP Smriti Irani led the race in West Bengal.

BJP is also reaching out to people to collect iron pieces for the ambitious ‘Statue of Unity’ that Modi wants to build in memory of Sardar Patel – touted as the tallest structure in the world.

Take note of the incident

The report of physical assault on the assistant professor of DN College during exam by a student is serious cause of concern. As per the report the assistant professor was physically assaulted by a student when she was performing invigilation duty of the End Semester- 2013 exam of RGU and tried to stop the said examinee from indulging in unfair means. Instead of listening to the teacher, the students resented her act and assaulted her in the process.

Such unsavioury incident severely dents the teacher-student relation. The authorities should take note of growing incidents of physical assaults on the teachers by the students. While many of the incidents go unreported, the authorities in the past clearly failed to take strong action against those erring students against whom the case was lodged. Tough punishment should be meted out to such student who misbehaves with teachers. The parents should also play their part and educate children about need to respect teachers. The moral education should begin from home. Meanwhile Arunachal Pradesh College Teachers’ Association claim that an FIR  has already been lodged against attacker by the Centre Superintendent, End Semester-2013 of RGU. Hope police take some action in this regard.

Demand for Pakke-Kessang district is genuine

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the general public of 12th Pakke-Kessang Constituency, the All Pakke-Kessang Pijerang Dissing Passo Seijosa Student Union (APPDSSU), would like to welcome the bold step  taken by  All Nyishi Youth Association demanding immediate creation of new districts namely Pakke-Kessang bifurcating from East Kameng District and Kamle from Lower Subansiri District with its headquarters at Lemmi and Raga. The demand raised by ANYA is a long term demand of the people of Pakke-Kessang, which consists of five circles of Pakke-Kessang, Seijosa, Dissing Passo, Passa and Pijerang. This demand was first raised by late former education minister Dera Natung in the 90's.

We appeal State Government to take serious action on the above issue for the overall benefit of the people of the area.

Please pay attention to Govt middle School Jote

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily I would like to share some concern about the condition of Govt middle School Jote.

During my last visit in the school compound, I noticed that there is no proper road and boundary wall to safeguard the student. Today the competition level for the students are high. Students need modern education, proper awareness, suitable boarding, etc to keep themselves aware of every  little thing. At Jote middle school, the girl’s hostel made up of bamboo is wearing out and everything is transparent. Few incidents also occurred in past including the one when was a drunk trespasser entered the girls hostel and misbehaved with a hosteller. Today crime against girls are increasing day by day keeping this in mind, the concerned authorities at least should have constructed protection wall.

Govt. of Arunachal has established numerous schools across the state but I bet none of the schools are functioning properly. Therefore I request the concerned authorities/govt. to look after this issue and properly use every penny of renovation funds instead of corrupting it.

Be fair to the contestants

Dear Editor,

In one of the recent beauty pageant held in AP where I was just a mere audience, was shocked with  intense partiality shown by the organizer.  I knew none of the contestants but it was ample to know them through their stage performance. I have been to various beauty contests but have never witnessed like the one in the recent case. My eyes were about to pope out literally after witnessing the question answer round of the top 8 contestants. The best answers were given by contestant no.6 and 3 and I was shocked that contestant no.6 wasn't selected in top 5. Apart from that the worst was in the top 5 question answer round where it seemed to me that speaking nothing was worth than speaking so beautifully with confident, proper English and elaboration which contestant no.3 did but to my surprise the girl who was expected to win by many audience couldn't even bag 2nd runners up.

It’s a shame for the organizers that they crossed the limit of favouritism thereby not recognizing hope and determination of young girls. This kind of favour system is actually de-motivating factor not only in beauty contest (where people actually look for beauty with brain) but many in other platforms and by practicing such kind of favouritism one doesn't get respect.

Lastly it’s a request to beautiful talented girls to know the criteria first before taking part in any kind of competition because when you are investing so much of time, energy and money on something, it shouldn't be an unjust one like the recent beauty pageant where there was no role of judge at all and all the questions were asked by only one person. I don’t have any grudges against any of the winners. However it was beyond my toleration and therefore I am writing what audience of not more than 30 people were discussing. I just wish and hope that people won’t mock and see beauty pageants as a cheap platform due to the such act of favouritism.
